Kentucky Wesleyan fell in four sets at home at Jones Gym in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Friday evening. KWC won the first set 25-22, but dropped the next three sets 25-23, 25-22, 25-18. With the loss, Kentucky Wesleyan falls to 8-12, (2-4 G-MAC) on the year.
The opening set of the contest was tight. The Senators jumped out to a 15-12 advantage, but the Panthers battled back into the set and evened things up at 19-19. KWC won three straight points later on to build a 24-22 lead. Gabrielle Gallois finished off the set with a solo block.
In the second, the Panthers were rolling. KWC built a 14-7 lead after Sierra Morrow, Gabrielle Gallois, and Mallory Sacre connected on three straight kills. Kentucky Wesleyan still led the set later on at 19-15. Davis & Elkins would win seven straight points to take a 22-20 lead. The set was knotted at 23-23, but the Senators claimed the final two points in the set.
Kentucky Wesleyan jumped out to a 12-8 lead on the Senators in the third set. But just like in the second, D&E rallied back into it with by winning seven of the next eight points. After being tied at 16-16, KWC was never able to re-gain the lead in the set.
In the fourth set, the Senators controlled the momentum. Kentucky Wesleyan held an 11-9 lead, but the Senators won 11 out of the next 12 points to hold a comfortable 21-12 lead. KWC held off four consecutive match points before the set was finished.
Jaylen McEwen led the Panthers with a team-high 10 kills. Audrey Baysinger posted nine kills, while Gabrielle Gallois generated eight in the match.
Kylie Foster registered 41 assists, with a team-high two service aces. Foster also finished with nine digs. Sierra Morrow recorded four blocks, three of which were solo blocks. Emily Yocom also added eight digs.
Kentucky Wesleyan will return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Alderson Broaddus. Tomorrow's match is Senior Day for Kaitlyn Groce, Sarah Swenson, and Emily Yocom.
