Football hosts No. 11 Ashland on Saturday

Kentucky Wesleyan will host Ashland on Saturday afternoon in Owensboro at Steele Stadium at 1 p.m. The Panthers enter Saturday with an overall record of 1-6. KWC fell last Saturday at No. 21 UNC Pembroke 43-20.

Wide receiver Keelan Cole was named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player Of The Week on Monday. It is now the fourth time this season that Cole has collected the weekly accolade.

Ashland is nationally rated at No. 11 this season. The Eagles are 6-1 this season, and have won the past two consecutive games. Ashland recently defeated Lake Erie 63-6 last weekend.

The Eagles' offense averages over 42 points per game, and their defense is holding down opponents to just 15.3 points each game. AU also produces over 500 yards of total offense every game. Ashland uses a balanced attack, with an average of over 200 rushing yards on the ground, and over 300 passing yards per game. The Eagles' defense has given up just 13 total points over the past two weekends.

For the Panthers, quarterback Damarcus Smith has thrown nine touchdowns. He has also thrown for over 1000 yards passing this year. Keelan Cole leads the Panthers' receiving core with over 800 yards receiving and eight touchdown catches.

Running back Josiah Israel has recorded one touchdown each in the past two matchups.

Kentucky Wesleyan's defense has four players who have registered over 30 solo tackles this season.
