Box Score The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team rallied from a nine point deficit, and overcame a slow start in the first half to take down Alderson Broaddus 79-77 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Thursday evening.
Jennifer Walker-Crawford scored the game winning basket with 11 seconds to play to put the Panthers ahead for good. With the conference win Kentucky Wesleyan improves to (8-5, 2-1 G-MAC) on the season. KWC also improves to 2-2 in road contests this year.
Alderson Broaddus jumped out to a quick start, and took an early 7-0 lead to start the game. The Battlers were in control the entire first quarter of the game, and the Panthers found themselves still down seven after the first quarter came to an end at 24-17.
In the second quarter, Kentucky Wesleyan began trading baskets with Alderson Broaddus, as the Battlers could not distance themselves from the Panthers.
Katie Miller converted on a layup to cut the lead to three at 35-32, but Alderson Broaddus finished the quarter strong and led KWC 41-34 at the break.
In the second half, things did not look good for the Panthers early on. KWC trailed 50-41 with six minutes left in the quarter, but would make a comeback to tighten the score. The Panthers would go on a 19-9 run to close the gap and take the lead 60-59 heading into the final quarter of play.
Alderson Broaddus would not go away in the fourth quarter, despite giving up their lead.
Brittany Wells' layup would put the Panthers ahead 67-62 with 7:30 to play, but the Battlers 6-0 run would give them the advantage at 68-67 moments later. After both teams briefly held the lead again, the score was 73 apiece with just over a minute to play.
After
Bria Wright sank two free throws, KWC would get the ball up 75-74 with under a minute to go.
Jennifer Walker-Crawford scored the final four points of the game for the Panthers.
The Battlers hit a three pointer with 21 seconds left to play to tie the game, but Walker-Crawford would not be denied inside the paint, as she knocked down the game winning bucket.
Walker-Crawford finished as the team's leading scorer with 14 points on the night. She has led the Panthers in scoring in five games this season, and has also finished in double figures in ten contests this year.
Erin Dorn also added a season single-game high of 13 points. All 10 Panthers who played in the contest finished in the scoring column.
Katie Miller collected nine points, and
Asia Coates and
Brittany Wells both scored eight.
Bria Wright brought in a team-high seven boards.
Kentucky Wesleyan will next be in action on Saturday, when they matchup with Davis & Elkins at 1 p.m. CT.
