Game NotesThe Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team will travel to West Virginia for two Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchups. The Panthers will play Alderson Broaddus and Davis & Elkins over the course of Thursday-Saturday. Kentucky Wesleyan is (7-5, 1-1 G-MAC) on the season so far, and will look to improve their conference record after dropping their last contest to Cedarville. Thursday's game will begin at 4:15 p.m. CT, and Saturday's will begin at 1 p.m. CT.
Co-Head Coach Nicole Nieman talked about the last two conference games. "The Ursuline game was a great game. They are a great team and have a great head coach and we knew that it was going to be a tough game. It was a lot of fun to compete in and be in a close game, and our girls showed a lot of fight to come back and win."
The Panthers currently have two players scoring in double figures with Brittany Wells at 12.7 points per game, and Jennifer Walker-Crawford, who is scoring 12.3 points per game, Kentucky Wesleyan is averaging 64.8 points per game as a team. They are also shooting nearly 40% from the floor as a team. Walker-Crawford also leads the team in rebounds each game with six. Jill Jones leads KWC with a team-high 26 assists on the season.
Alderson Broaddus is just 3-9 this season, but have won their past two matchups, and are 1-0 in G-MAC play. The Battlers defeated Davis & Elkins 76-71 last Saturday.
Davis & Elkins is currently sitting with a 5-7 record this season, and are 1-1 in conference play. The Senators are 4-1 at home this year, and are coming off of a 22 point victory over Salem International.
"AB and D&E are both better than their records show. They've both already played some really good teams. We're excited to get on the road, and are excited to play again. Â Both of these teams are going to be ready for us. It's been another long break since we've last played, and you just never know what type of team you are going to get" Nieman said.
Brittany Wells was named G-MAC Athlete Of The Week last week, and Nieman spoke about the impact Wells has on both sides of the floor. "She's been doing a great job this year. She's really maintained consistency and gets out and plays 94 feet for us every game. She also has done a great job for us offensively with scoring the basketball. She has the ability to get to the rim, shoot the three, and what we really like about her is her ability to defend. It's been fun to coach her, and see her growth and development."
