Football faces No. 6 Delta State

Game notes

The Kentucky Wesleyan football team will travel to Cleveland, Miss. to take on the #6 Delta State Statesman on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT at McCool Stadium.

The Panthers are coming off a close 39-34 hard-fought loss to Limestone last weekend.

"We've got to eliminate penalties in games and we've got to eliminate mistakes in practice," said Panther head coach Brent Holsclaw.

Delta State's high powered offense is averaging 49.5 points per game, and has put up 533 yards of total offense in their first two games. Tyler Sullivan has passed for 784 yards and 6 touchdowns plus completing 61 percent of his passes.

"Delta State is a terrific football program. Our defense is really going to be challenged this week." Holsclaw also stated that his team needs to establish a running game this weekend.

The Panthers offense is averaging 23.0 points per game and senior quarterback Dalton Oliver has thrown for 519 yards and three touchdowns through the first two weeks of the season.

Holsclaw on Oliver, "He's the leader of our offense and his teammates are following his leadership. Dalton does a good job of managing our offense and moving the sticks."

Xavier Mitchell leads the team in reception yards, with 175. He is averaging 87.5 yards receiving each game.

Cody Mills leads the Panthers with 15.5 tackles on defense, nine of which are solo.

Holsclaw added, "I know what our abilities are on defense, and we just have to be more consistent in games."

Despite being off to a 0-2 start to the year, Holsclaw has been encouraged by his team's performances so far this year.
