Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Needing a pair of wins to wrap up the three seed in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament, Kentucky Wesleyan baseball looked to take three of four from Davis & Elkins.

Pounding out a combined 33 hits and 22 runs in two games, which gave them 397 on the season, six shy of the record (403 – 1986), the Panthers swept the second day of the series by scores of 13-5 and 9-3.  Kentucky Wesleyan heads into the G-MAC tournament with a 32-16 record.

GAME THREE – Kentucky Wesleyan 13, D&E 5 (7 innings)

The Panthers would jump out to an 8-0 lead in the first three innings, scoring two in the first, three in the second and three in the third, including RBI's from Josh Galvan, Kyle Emig, Troy Paris, Nate Stemle and Dennon Koziol.  D&E cut the lead to 8-1 in the third, but Kentucky Wesleyan responded by scoring five in the 5th and the seventh combined to lead 13-1, with Galvan driving in two of the final four runs, including a solo home run.

Austin Tibbs started and picked up the win, going four innings and scattering seven hits with a run and one strikeout. Billy McCoy picked up a save in relief, pitching the final three innings.

GAME FOUR – Kentucky Wesleyan 9, D&E 3 (9 innings)

Davis & Elkins grabbed an early lead in the final game of the series with a single tally in the first. Johnathan Eberhardt would launch a two-run home run in the fourth inning to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead.

D&E would retake the lead in the fifth, but Kentucky Wesleyan had an answer again.  Tyler Howard would give the Panthers the lead for good in the sixth, first scoring Eberhardt with a single to tie the game, then scoring himself on a throwing error by the pitcher.

From there, the Kentucky Wesleyan bullpen would hold the Senators scoreless and the Panthers responded, adding five runs combined in the eighth and ninth to win 9-3.  Matt Lasley picked up the win for Kentucky Wesleyan, scattering six hits and allowing three runs over five innings of work.

Next up for the Panthers is the opening game of the G-MAC tournament against Cedarville.  First pitch on Wednesday, May 6, is set for 5:00 CT.
