Walk-off helps KWC earn series split with Alderson Broaddus

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Looking to salvage a series split against AB, Kentucky Wesleyan baseball kept the final two games of the series close.

Troy Paris' bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th gave KWC a series split with the Battlers.  Their record now stands at 17-11 overall and 5-7 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

GAME ONE – AB 3, KWC 1 (7 innings)

Alderson Broaddus grabbed the lead quickly in the second game, scoring a single run on a double play in the second followed by another run on a single in the fourth.  Paris would cut the lead in half in the fifth on a single that scored Dennon Koziol to make it 2-1.

The Battlers added an insurance run in the seventh, but the Panther bats couldn't push across any runs, falling 3-1.  Sammy Holder threw a complete game for KWC, scattering nine hits and allowing three runs with two K's in the loss.

GAME TWO – KWC 5, AB 4 (10 innings)

Neither team scored in the first two innings, but AB struck first in the third, taking a 2-0 lead heading to the bottom half.  KWC responded, scoring three times in the inning to take a 3-2 lead.

The Battlers would tie the game in the fifth and would take the lead in the sixth at 4-3, before the Panthers came back and tied the game in the bottom half at four-all.  Neither team would score in the final three innings, sending KWC to their first extra-inning game this season.

Austin Tibbs was able to keep AB off the board in the top of the 10th, setting the stage for the offense in the bottom half.  Josh Vance was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to second on a walk to Tyler Howard.

Howard and Vance would both move up a base on a wild pitch and that led to Dennon Koziol being walked to load the bases.  A pitching change for Alderson Broaddus resulted in a strikeout before Paris came to the plate.

Paris would draw a walk on a 3-2 count to score Vance and give the Panthers their first walk-off win of the season, 5-4.  Preston Frommeyer started and pitched the first four innings for KWC and Austin Tibbs got the win in relief, going six innings and allowing seven hits and one run while not walking a batter and striking out four.

The Panthers return to the road this weekend for a G-MAC contest against Ohio Valley University.
