Panthers split series opening doubleheader with Alderson Broaddus

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Led by a historic outing from Matt Pobereyko in game one, Kentucky Wesleyan baseball was able to earn a split with Alderson Broaddus.

Pobereyko threw a no-hitter with 18 K's in game one, setting a single game Great Midwest Athletic Conference record in the process.  The split put KWC's overall record at 16-10 overall and 4-6 in G-MAC play.

GAME ONE – KWC 19, AB 0 (9 innings)

Scoring 19 or more runs for the third time this season, the Panthers were able to end AB's 11-game winning streak in the first game.  A Chad Klein triple in the first started the scoring for KWC, and Pobereyko took over from there.

Pobereyko threw a no hitter, one of several in Kentucky Wesleyan history, and set a single-game school record for strikeouts (18), breaking the previous record of 16 set in 1972.  Pobereyko only allowed five baserunners in the game, on four walks and a hit by pitch, but was able to wriggle out of jams each time.

The offense scored multiple runs in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh to cruise to the 19-0 win.  Eight starters had at least one hit and seven starters had at least one RBI.

Pobereyko improved to 5-1 on the season and lowered his season ERA to 2.16 and now has a team high 58 K's, which is second in the G-MAC.

GAME TWO – AB 13, KWC 4 (7 innings)

AB jumped on the Panthers early, scoring a single run in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead.  KWC answered with three in the second, including a two-run homer from Josh Galvan, and one in the third to take a 4-1 lead after three.

The Panthers couldn't hold the lead however, and allowed AB to score 11 unanswered runs en route to a 13-4 win.  Matt Lasley took the loss for KWC in game two.
