Emig's big day helps Panthers split with Knights

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Led by a pair of Kyle Emig homers in game one, Kentucky Wesleyan was able to come away with a doubleheader split against Bellarmine in non-conference action.

Emig would finish the day with three home runs, and his second home run of game one was the difference in a 7-3 for KWC.  The Panthers (25-14) fell behind early in game two and could not claw their way back in, losing 7-5 in game two.

GAME ONE – KWC 7, Bellarmine 3 (7 innings)

BU (21-19), came out of the gates quickly in game one, scoring a single run in the first and two in the third for a 3-0 lead through three innings.  The score would stay that way until the Panthers came to the plate in the sixth.

Emig would smash his first home run of the day, a two-run homer that scored Dennon Koziol as well, to cut the lead to 3-2.  A Nate Stemle RBI single four batters later knotted the game at three.

After Spencer Otto held Bellarmine scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, KWC came to bat looking for the lead.  With one out, Koziol was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a walk to Troy Paris.

The next batter, Emig, launched his second home run of the game, this time a three-run shot to left center, to give the Panthers a 6-3.  Josh Galvan's homer two batters later gave KWC an insurance run and brought the score to its final margin of 7-3.

Otto picked up the win for the Panthers, pitching one relief inning and allowing just one walk.  Justin Kittel pitched the seventh and struck out two.

GAME TWO – BU 7, KWC 5 (7 innings)

The Knights got out to another fast start in game two, racing to a 4-0 lead in the first two innings.  KWC tried to chip away, but never got closer than 7-3 until the seventh when Emig hit his third homer of the day, another two-run shot, to make the final 7-5.

Emig finished the day 3-7, with all three hits being home runs, and added seven RBI's in the process.  Dennon Koziol was 3-for-4 in game two with a pair of RBI's.

KWC returns to the field this Thursday with their final Great Midwest Athletic Conference home series of the season.  First pitch of the series against Salem International is set for noon CT.
