Box Score 2 Kaci Ovelgoenner hit her 16th career home run to break the Kentucky Wesleyan record in a 4-3 loss in the first game of a doubleheader to Alderson Broaddus on Monday in Owensboro.
Ovelgoenner broke the mark, set by Jenny Brenner's (1994-95) 15, with a three-run shot to left center field in the first inning sending
Jaclyn Parker and
Amber Pendergraft to the plate. This was the Panthers only offensive.
The Battlers slowly tied the game with one run in the third, fourth and fifth frames before the game-winning RBI triple in the seventh.
Pendergraft had two of KWC's six hits.
Casey Smith (9-5) received the loss in throwing six innings with two strikeouts and allowing one walk.
The Panthers bounced back to win the closer as
Josalyn Ress threw a three-hitter in KWC's 2-0 victory.
Ress (10-5) had a perfect game going through four innings when ABU collected their first hit in fifth and two in the sixth. She tossed five strikeouts with no walks in seven innings.
KWC produced both runs in the first as Pendergraft scored on a ground out double play and
Mackenzie Weedman crossed the plate on an RBI single by
Samantha Marksbury.
Weedman went three-for-four at the plate while
Courtney Lockwood and Marksbury each added two hits of the Panther's had eight.
The Panthers (22-12, 12-5 G-MAC) host the Battlers (19-12, 8-8 G-MAC) in a single game on Wednesday at noon.
