Panthers split with Oakland City

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
With a bye week in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play, Kentucky Wesleyan baseball went on the road to Oakland City this weekend.

Matt Pobereyko had another dominant outing in game one, surrendering just one hit in his start, leading his team to a 9-0 win in game one.  In game two, KWC trailed early, tied the game in the third, then could not come back again, falling 7-5.

GAME ONE – KWC 9, OCU 0 (7 innings)

The Panthers jumped on Oakland City early in game one, scoring five in the second and three in the third to lead 8-0 after three innings.  Troy Paris' sixth inning home run made the score 9-0.

The rest of the game was all about Matt Pobereyko.  He would allow just one hit over five innings while striking out seven, which gives him 80 on the season.  The 80 strikeouts is just four away from tying the school record of 84, which has been accomplished three different times.

He picked up his seventh win of the season in the shutout.  Tyler Howard had four RBI's in the game, as well.

GAME TWO – OCU 7, KWC 5 (7 innings)

Oakland City would jump out to an early lead, scoring twice in the first and three times in the second to take a 5-0 lead after two.  KWC responded in a big way in the top of the third inning.

Seth Sharp scored on a Dennon Koziol triple to make the score 5-1, and Koziol would score on a Paris double to make it 5-2.  Josh Galvan provided the rest of the scoring in the inning with a three-run home run to tie the game at five.

OCU responded in the bottom half, scoring twice to take a 7-5 lead.  The score remained that way through the rest of the game.

Evan Mohr was the unfortunate loser for KWC (22-13).  The Panthers and the Mighty Oaks (11-17) play again today for the final time this year.
