Box Score 4 Kentucky Wesleyan softball extended their winning streak to 12 when they swept host Ohio Valley in a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
In the first contest on Saturday,
Ashley Crooke started the Panthers offensive in the first inning with an RBI single to centerfield driving home
Amber Pendergraft for the 1-0 lead.
The Fighting Scots came back to tie the contest with a solo home run in the second.
Mackenzie Weedman put KWC ahead for good in the third with an RBI single to centerfield sending Pendergraft in again at 2-1.
Pendergraft knocked in
Courtney Lockwood on a ground out to the shortstop to settle on the 3-1 victory in the fourth.
Josalyn Ress (7-3) went the distance by throwing five strikeouts and two walks in seven innings.
The second game saw Crooke,
Kayla Norris, Ovelgoenner and Pendergraft registered two hits apiece to lead the Panthers to a 4-2 win.
Ohio Valley jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the first before
Jessica Carmon hit a single to centerfield to score Crooke in the fourth to even the score. The Fighting Scots in the bottom of the fourth pushed ahead 2-1.
In the fifth, Ovelgoenner connected on a two-run homer bringing Pendergraft to the plate for the final tally.
Casey Smith (7-2) collected the win. She tossed 6.2 innings with three strikeouts and one walk.
Jessica Carmon came in to close the seventh inning to earn her second save of the season.
On Sunday, the Panthers captured the first outing 6-3 and closed the series with an 11-2 victory.
Carmon, Crooke and Pendergraft each collected two hits apiece and Carmon knocked in two of KWC's six runs. Six different Panthers each scored a run.
In the first inning, Crooke hit a grounder to drive in Marksbury and Carmon followed with a two-run RBI sending Weedman and Ovelgoenner to the plate to extend the lead to 3-0.
Crooke scored the fourth run in the third on a fielding error and
Courtney Lockwood singled to left field to drive in Carmon. Norris followed with an RBI single to centerfield to score
Jaclyn Parker to add three more to make it 6-0.
Ohio Valley came back in the fourth to score three runs as both teams did not score the final three innings to end the game.
Josalyn Ress (8-3) threw four strikeouts and allowed no walks in six innings pitched. Smith finished the final inning with one strikeout.
The nightcap, Crooke exploded for four hits while Marksbury and Norris added two apiece.
The Fighting Scots jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first before KWC came back with three in the third.
Norris started the offense with an RBI double to right field scoring Parker. Marksbury followed with a groundout RBI bringing Lockwood home. Ovelgoenner pushed Norris across the plate to add the third run.
OVU added their final run in the third on a RBI single. The Panthers followed with four straight two-run innings to put the game out of reach.
Crooke scored on a wild pitch and Lockwood had a ground-out RBI to send Parker home in the fourth.
In the fifth, Weedman hit a solo home run and Parker connected on a RBI single to centerfield to bring Crooke home to the 7-2 advantage.
Weedman once again started the sixth with a sacrifice fly driving in Pendergraft. Crooke added run number nine with a single RBI to left field pushing Norris across the plate.
The final frame saw Marksbury hit an RBI single to leftfield to send Norris home. Ovelgoenner closed the game with a RBI single to centerfield to add the 11th and final run with Pendergraft scoring.
Carmon (2-1) went seven innings and had one strikeout and one walk.
The Panthers (17-6, 8-0 G-MAC) travel to Nashville to play G-MAC foe Trevecca Nazarene in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
