Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 After splitting the first two games of the series with Ohio Valley, Kentucky Wesleyan baseball looked to even their record in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play with two games on Sunday.
KWC would eclipse the 20 run mark for the third time this season in a 24-0 rout in game one and would follow that up with a 14-8 win in game two. The Panthers improved to 20-12 on the season and 8-8 in G-MAC play, while Ohio Valley dropped to 5-19 overall and 4-7 in the G-MAC.
GAME THREE – KWC 24, OVU 0 (7 innings)
KWC jumped on OVU early, scoring six in the first and five in the second to capture an 11-0 lead after two innings. The multiple run innings continued in the fifth (3) and sixth (10), when the Panthers scored their final 13 runs to finish off the 24-0 win.
The Panthers got home runs in the contest from
Kyle Emig,
Johnathan Eberhardt, his fourth of the series, as well as a grand slam from
Seth Sharp to cap the scoring in the sixth. Every KWC starter got a hit and eight of the nine starters recorded an RBI.
Sammy Holder was the winner for the Panthers, pitching a complete game while allowing just six hits, one walk and recording four strikeouts.
GAME FOUR – KWC 14, OVU 8 (9 innings)
The final game of the series started much the same way as the previous game. KWC scored six in the first, one in the second and three in the third to take a 10-0 lead after three innings.
OVU would make it interesting in the fourth, scoring six runs to cut the lead to 10-6 and chase starter
Preston Frommeyer out of the game. The Panthers responded though, scoring three times in the seventh, including a two-run triple from
Dennon Koziol to put the game out of reach, and scoring once in the ninth to tally the final margin of 14-8.
Eberhardt would hit the only KWC home run of the final game, his fifth of the series.Â
Austin Tibbs picked up the win in relief, throwing 4.2 innings and allowing six hits and three runs (two earned) with two K's.
The Panthers step out of conference for five games this coming week, beginning with a single game against Indianapolis on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.Â
