Eberhardt and Pobereyko power KWC past Ohio Valley in game one of series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Led by three home runs from Johnathan Eberhardt and a 15 strikeout performance from Matt Pobereyko, Kentucky Wesleyan baseball was able to come away with a doubleheader split against Great Midwest Athletic Conference foe Ohio Valley.

Eberhardt was also able to garner five RBI's in the game and Pobereyko moved his strikeout total to 73 for the season, which puts him 11 away from tying the school's single season record, and grabbed win number six with another scoreless outing.

GAME ONE – KWC 16, OVU 4 (9 innings)

The Panthers (18-12/6-8) were able to jump on Ohio Valley (5-17/5-6) early, scoring three runs in the first on Eberhardt's first homer, a solo shot, and a two run single from Nate Stemle.  They would extend their lead to 4-0 in the second on another Eberhardt solo homer and push it to 5-0 in the third on a Tyler Howard RBI double.

Neither team would score in the fourth or the fifth and KWC would explode offensively for nine runs, including a two-run Eberhardt homer, to make the score 14-0 after six. Howard would drive in a run again the seventh and Eberhardt would get RBI number five with a single in that inning to make it 16-0 after seven.

Ohio Valley would score four combined in the eighth and ninth, but it was too little, too late as the Panthers won 16-4.  Pobereyko threw seven scoreless innings, surrendering just three hits with three walks and 15 K's to go to 6-1 on the season.

GAME TWO – OVU 7, KWC 6 (7 innings)

Ohio Valley would score first in game two, but the Panthers responded with a run in the second to tie the game at one.  Ohio Valley would score in each of the next three innings and would lead 6-2 after four.

KWC was not done, scoring twice in the fifth on a sac fly from Chad Klein and a single from Josh Galvan, who homered earlier in the game, to make the score 6-4.  The Panthers would tie the game in the sixth on back-to-back RBI singles from Troy Paris and Klein.

Ohio Valley would add a single run in the bottom half of the inning and KWC was unable to respond, dropping the contest 7-6.  Andrew Moralez was the unfortunate loser, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing only three hits and one run with one strikeout.

The Panthers return to Vienna tomorrow for the conclusion of the series.  The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
