Panthers advance to semifinals with 85-54 win over Ursuline

Box Score
Carrying a four game winning streak into Great Midwest Athletic Conference play, Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball looked for a repeat of last season's run to the championship.

Led by Jennifer Walker-Crawford's 13 points and nine rebounds, KWC overcame a five-point first half deficit to beat Ursuline 85-54 to advance to the semifinals tomorrow.  KWC improved to 19-8 on the season while Ursuline ends their season 8-21.

Erin Dorn made the first field goal of the game, a three pointer, 23 seconds in to give KWC a 3-0 lead.  Following an Ursuline basket, a second three from Dorn made it 6-2 and the Panthers would get a third consecutive three, this time from Bria Wright, to stretch to a 9-2 lead just 1:41 into the contest.

Ursuline responded with a 7-0 run to tie the game at 9 with 16:05 left in the first half, but KWC was unphased.  A Haley Cook free throw and a Sydney Morabito layup put the lead back to 12-9 with 14:59 left.

KWC went cold from the field shortly after and Ursuline was able to go on a 9-1 run to take an 18-13 lead with 11:31 left in the half.  The Panthers responded and went on a 17-2 run over the next 6:29, capped by a Cook three, to make the score 30-20 with 5:02 left in the half.

The half finished 7-5 in favor of the Panthers and they went into the locker room leading 37-25.

KWC was unable to pull away by more than 13 in the second half until the 10:42 mark.  A steal and a missed three by Jade Mills-Harris resulted in a Walker-Crawford rebound and a layup by Jordanne Gambill to make it 54-39.

That started a 14-3 run for the Panthers that put the game away.  KWC cruised the rest of the half, winning 85-54.

Walker-Crawford was one of four Panthers in double figures as she was joined by Gambill, Cook and Katie Miller, who all had 10 points apiece.

The Panthers outshot Ursuline 45-32 and out rebounded the Arrows 44-42.  The Panthers get a rematch of last year's G-MAC championship game when they face Trevecca in tomorrow's semifinals.  Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
