Box Score 2 Casey Smith produced her second no-hitter of the season when Kentucky Wesleyan opened Great Midwest Athletic Conference with a sweep of visiting Salem International, 8-3 and 3-0, on Friday afternoon.

Smith (4-2) threw seven innings in the second contest where she had two strikeouts and one walk.

Mackenzie Weedman hit a double in the first inning to drive in
Samantha Marksbury and
Amber Pendergraft. Weedman followed in the fifth with her second RBI brining home Marksbury again for the 3-0 final.

In the opener,
Kaci Ovelgoenner went three-for-four including a home run in producing three RBIs to lead KWC.

Ovelgoenner hit an RBI double and
Ashley Crooke added a RBI single as the Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 in the first. Marksbury and Ovelgoenner recorded the runs.

Weedman drove in Marksbury on an error in the third for a 3-0 lead.

The Fighting Tigers got on the scoreboard in the fourth with one run.

Marksbury connected on a single to drive in two runs bringing Pendergraft and
Kayla Norris home to extend the advantage to 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth.

Salem International fought back with two in the fifth.
Alexis Chapman responded in the bottom frame to send
Jaclyn Parker home to make the score 6-3.

In the sixth, Ovelgoenner hit a two-run homer with Marksbury joining her at the plate to settle on the final tally 8-3. Â

Marksbury had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs in two at bats. Â Â

Josalyn Ress collected her third win (3-3) by pitching seven innings and throwing five strikeouts and giving up no walks.

The Panthers (7-6, 2-0 G-MAC) host Salem (4-8, 0-2 G-MAC) again on Saturday at noon in the Breast Cancer Awareness doubleheader.
