KWC sets several records in blowout of Minnesota-Crookston

Box Score
Carrying a five game winning streak into their final game of the Florida Spring Trip, Kentucky Wesleyan baseball got an unexpected offensive outburst against Minnesota-Crookston.

KWC set school records for hits in a game (25), RBI's in a game (26) and runs in a single inning (15-7th) in a 27-11 win over Minnesota-Crookston.  The win gave the Panthers' their sixth in a row and improved their record to 10-4.

Every KWC starter except Kyle Emig, who left the game with an injury, had at least one hit and one run scored in the contest.  Johnthan Eberhardt went 3-for-5 in the game, tying the school record with four runs scored, while driving in six in the win.

Shawn Kahre got the win in relief for the Panthers, allowing just one baserunner, on a hit by pitch, in 1.1 innings of relief.

KWC jumped out to a 6-1 lead after four innings, scoring one in the first, three in the third and two in the fourth.  Crookston scored 11 runs over the next four innings to take an 11-6 lead into the seventh; the bottom half of the inning is where records began to fall for the Panthers.

Emig, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference player of the week, started the inning on a hit by pitch, and he went to third on an RBI single by Josh Vance, on which he was injured and lifted for pinch runner Trenton Cundiff.  A passed ball got Cundiff home to make the score 11-7 and Vance scored on a Tyler Shewmaker RBI single to make it 11-8.

KWC continued the onslaught, loading the bases before Dennon Koziol was hit by a pitch to bring in another run.  Eberhardt would tie the game at 11 with a two run double, plating Mike Hellmueller and Seth Sharp.

Andrew Kirkland drew a walk as the next hitter and Chad Klein chased in Koziol and Eberhardt to give the Panthers a 13-11 lead.  A Jordan Fortner pinch hit single loaded the bases again, and Vance was hit by a pitch to bring home Kirkland and make it 14-11.

After a pitching change, KWC added three more runs on a bases loaded walk and a two run single.  Another hit by pitch and another pitching change brought Eberhardt back to the plate, and he hit a bases clearing triple to make the score 20-11.

The Panthers added their 15th and final run on a Klein single to score Eberhardt and make it 21-11.  KWC would add six more tallies in the bottom of the eighth to cap their record setting performance.

27 runs scored fell two short of the school record, set on March 8, 1986 against Lambuth, but it did set a new G-MAC record for runs in a game.  The Panthers also set the G-MAC single game hits record, and set a single inning runs scored record as well.

KWC returns to the field this weekend when they travel to Nashville, Tenn. for their first G-MAC series of the year against Trevecca.  First pitch of the four game series is set for Friday at noon.
