Panthers sweep doubleheader of Tiffin

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
With a day to recover and riding a three-game winning streak, Kentucky Wesleyan baseball returned to the field against regional opponent Tiffin.

Troy Paris' RBI single in the top of the seventh proved to be the winning run in a 7-6 win in game one, while Matt Lasley's complete game, eight hit, one run performance led KWC to a 4-1 win in game two.  With the wins, KWC improved to 9-4 on the season and improved their season best winning streak to five games.

GAME 6 – KWC 7, Tiffin 6 (7 innings)

Facing another early deficit in the first game, the Panthers responded once again, scoring four in the second to take a 4-3 after two innings.  Tyler Howard started the scoring with a sac fly that scored Chad Klein and made the score 3-1; Mike Hellmueller came to the plate as the next batter and roped a double that scored Josh Vance and Kyle Emig to tie the game at three.

Dennon Koziol traded places with Hellmueller on the next at bat to give KWC a 4-3 lead.  Koziol drove in two more runs on a single in the fourth to extend the Panther lead to 6-3.

Tiffin wasn't deterred, answering with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score at six.  KWC was unphased and scored the game winning run in the top of the seventh.

Koziol led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a passed ball.  Good base running on a groundout to shortstop put Koziol at third and Paris brought him in for the 7-6 lead.

Koziol finished the game 3-4 with three RBI's and a run scored.

Matt Pobereyko got around a two out walk in the bottom half, striking out the final hitter to end the game.  Pobereyko got the win, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing just two walks with two strikeouts in relief of starter Austin Tibbs; Tibbs pitched 4.2 innings allowing 11 hits and six runs (five earned) with one strikeout.

GAME 7 – KWC 4, Tiffin 1 (7 innings)

The Panthers were able to get out to an early lead in game two, scoring a single run in the first on a Klein single to score Johnathan Eberhardt and give KWC a 1-0 lead.  Neither team scored again until the bottom of the fourth.

KWC would score two runs on errors in the inning and Eberhardt drove in the third run on a sac fly to score Howard and make it 4-0. Lasley would cruise until the top of the sixth, when he allowed his only run of the game.

However, Lasley was able to finish the game, getting around a leadoff single in the seventh to seal the win.  Lasley scattered eight hits in the complete game, allowing just the sixth inning run and striking out five.
