Box Score 2 A 3-1 start to the season sent Kentucky Wesleyan softball into the final day of the Charger Chillout with some momentum.
The Panthers would take on the number five team in the nation, Wayne State, in game one and follow that up with a game against former Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Saint Joseph's in game two.
Kaci Ovelgoenner finished the doubleheader 4-for-7 with three RBI's and two runs scored.Â
Casey Smith would pick up her third win of the season in the finale against Saint Joseph's.
GAME FIVE – NO. 5 WAYNE STATE 3, KWC 1The Panthers were unable to get a rally going offensively against Wayne St., falling 3-1 in Sunday's opener. Ovelgoenner had a pair of hits and scored the only run for KWC on a
Mackenzie Weedman RBI single in the fourth.Â
Josalyn Ress started and pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits, three runs (one earned) and walking only one while striking out three.
GAME SIX – KWC 10, SAINT JOSEPH'S 3Led by a pair of hits and three RBI's from Ovelgoenner, KWC was able to cap the weekend at 4-2, using a six-run fifth inning to beat Saint Joseph's in the finale 10-3.Â
Jaclyn Parker had three hits, an RBI and a pair of runs scored in the game and Weedman,
Alexis Chapman and
Samantha Marksbury all had multiple hits with RBI's as well, including Marksbury's first home run as a Panther, a solo shot in the second.
Casey Smith started for KWC, pitching four innings and allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and a pair of K's to improve to 3-0 on the season.Â
Jessica Carmon came in for the final three innings and allowed two hits, a run and struck out two.
