Softball comes behind to win season opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

With a six game road trip to begin the season, Kentucky Wesleyan Softball began their season Friday night with a doubleheader against Montevallo and Miles.

Mackenzie Weedman finished the opening two games going 6-for-8 with a home run, three RBI's and two runs scored.  Josalyn Ress pitched all 11 innings to get the win in game one and Casey Smith got the win in game two.

GAME ONE – KWC 6, MONTEVALLO 5 (11 innings)

Courtney Lockwood's walk-off single to score Weedman in the bottom of the 11th inning gave KWC their first win of the season, 6-5.  Weedman went 4-for-5 in the game with a double, a home run, three RBI's and two runs scored in the win and Josalyn Ress picked up the win, throwing all 11 innings, with 10 K's, while only walking three and surrendering five runs and ten hits in the complete game.

GAME TWO – KWC 2, MILES 1

Smith's go ahead double in the bottom of the sixth was enough to back her own effort and give the Panthers a 2-0 start to the season.  Smith, Weedman and Kaci Ovelgoenner all had a pair of hits and Smith posted the only RBI, in addition to pitching a complete game three-hitter allowing one unearned run and striking out four.
