KWC softball splits on day two of Lewis Dome Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
After dropping two games on the first day of the Lewis Dome Invitational, Kentucky Wesleyan softball was able to earn a split on day two.

KWC dropped the first game of the day to Wisconsin-Parkside, 7-4, but followed that up with a 7-6 victory over Missouri S&T in game two.  Amber Pendergraft went
2-for-4 in the win, with the game winning RBI in the seventh inning; Josalyn Ress picked up the win, pitching 2.2 innings of three-hit ball with two strikeouts.

GAME THREE – Wisconsin-Parkside 7, KWC 4

Wisconsin-Parkside jumped on KWC early, going up 4-0 in the second inning.  KWC responded in the top of the third, scoring three times in the inning.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, they wouldn't score again until the seventh, and by then, Parkside had built a 7-3 lead.  KWC would tally one in the seventh and fall 7-4.

Amber Pendergraft had a pair of hits and RBI's in the game and Kaci Ovelgoenner had a two run double in the third.  Casey Smith was the loser, allowing seven hits and seven runs (three earned) with two K's in five innings.

GAME FOUR – KWC 7, Missouri S&T 6

The Panthers jumped on Missouri S&T early, scoring three times in the first and once in the second to go up 4-0 after two innings.  Mackenzie Weedman plated Samantha Marksbury with the first run of the game and Weedman followed Ashley Crooke home on an error to make it 3-0.

A Marksbury triple that scored Pendergraft put KWC up 4-0 in the second.  The Miners scored a single tally in the third to cut the score to 4-1, but the Panthers scored twice in the fourth to stretch the lead to 6-1.

KWC's fourth inning runs scored on an Ovelgoenner double that chased home Marksbury, followed on the next batter by an RBI single by Crooke that scored Ovelgoenner.  S&T would tie the game with a five run fifth to setup drama in the seventh.

With a pair of runners on base and one out, Pendergraft smoked a single that scored Alexis Chapman and gave the Panthers the 7-6 walk-off win.  It was Pendergraft's lone RBI of the game, but it made a winner out of Ress in relief.
