Panthers post season high in points, FG percentage in win over Oakland City

Box Score
Stepping out of Great Midwest Athletic Conference play for a regional matchup, Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball took a trip to Oakland City this evening.

Jordanne Gambill scored the first nine points of the game for KWC en route to 21 points as the Panthers never trailed, beating Oakland City (6-14), 97-74.  The 97 points was a season high for the Panthers and 61 percent shooting from the field was also a season high.

Gambill opened the scoring with a three-pointer 41 seconds into the game and added a second three 33 seconds later to make it 6-0 with 18:46 left in the first half.  Oakland City responded with a basket before Gambill was fouled shooting a three pointer.  She sank all three free throws with 17:40 left in the half and made the score 9-2 KWC.

The teams would go back-and-forth from there, with Oakland City only getting to within three once at 13-10 with 15:20 left in the half.  A subsequent 7-0 run over the next 3:53 made it 20-10 with 11:27 left in the first.

The lead would only go to single digits once more in the game as the Panthers raced to a 56-37 lead at halftime.  56 points is a season high in one half as KWC shot 71 percent from the field, 78 from three-point land and were a perfect nine-for-nine at the charity stripe in the half.

The lead would never drop below 13 in the second half and the shooting cooled down.  However, KWC was able to cruise to a 97-74 victory.

In addition to the season best in field goal percentage, KWC also made as many free throws (30) as they did shots from the field.  Jennifer Walker-Crawford added 16 points for the Panthers, with 12 of her 16 coming in the second half, while Brittany Wells and Erin Dorn both added 12 as KWC moved to 13-6 on the season.

The Panthers return to G-MAC play this weekend when they travel to Nashville, Tenn. to face Trevecca on Saturday.  Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
