Box Score 2 Hoping to build off a season opening victory, Kentucky Wesleyan baseball concluded their three game series against North Greenville with a doubleheader today.
Giving up 16 combined runs in the fourth inning of both games, KWC dropped both ends of the doubleheader, losing in game one 11-1 in seven innings and falling 6-3 also in seven innings in game two.
Jonathan Eberhardt and
Troy Paris were both 3-for-6 in the double header, with Paris driving in a run in the first game and scoring a run in game two.Â
Sammy Holder pitched well in relief in game two, allowing no runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
GAME TWO – NGU 11, KWC 1 (7 INNINGS)
The Panthers would score first in the third inning. Paris singled and moved to second on an error by the leftfielder, which allowed
Tyler Howard to score from second to put KWC on top 1-0.Â
The floodgates opened for North Greenville (4-5) in the fourth inning, as they scored all 11 of their runs in that frame. Starter
Andrew Moralez was the loser, going 3 2/3 and allowing six runs on five hits while striking out six. Relievers
Preston Frommeyer and
Billy McCoy combined to throw 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief with Frommeyer issuing just a single walk.
GAME THREE – NGU 6, KWC 3 (7 INNINGS)
The final game of the series was different for KWC, with North Greenville jumping out to a 6-0 lead by scoring one in the third and five in the dreaded fourth inning. The Panthers would get all of their runs in the final frame.Â
Paris singled to lead off the inning and moved to second on a walk issued to
Andrew Kirkland. After a
Chad Klein single loaded the bases, Paris would score on a
Josh Vance single to cut the deficit to 6-1.
Pinch hitter
Jeremy Cline was the next batter and he would single home Kirkland to make the score 6-2.Â
Dennon Koziol would be the second straight pinch hitter and he would score Klein on an RBI groundout to bring the score to its final margin of 6-3.
Matt Lasley was the loser for KWC (1-2), surrendering seven hits and six runs in 3 and 2/3 innings with two K's. Holder would relieve Lasley and throw 2 and 1/3 innings of shutout ball, surrendering just three hits while K'ing four.
The Panthers return to South Carolina next weekend for a battle with Claflin University. First pitch of the Saturday doubleheader is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
