Box Score Coming off a loss at Trevecca on Saturday, Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball returned to the court tonight looking for a sweep of Central State.
Five Panthers finished in double-figures, led by
Jordanne Gambill's 18 points and KWC trailed only once, cruising to a 92-78 over the Marauders. The win improved KWC to 14-7 overall and 9-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.Â
Jennifer Walker-Crawford opened the scoring for KWC with a basket 15 seconds into the game and Central State (7-15, 4-8 G-MAC) responded with a three to take their only lead of the game at 3-2. Â With 19:02 left in the first half, Gambill made her first basket of the game, a three, to give the Panthers the lead for good at 5-3.
KWC would never trail again, stretching their first half lead to as many as 12 on another three by Gambill with 10:18 left in the half. The lead would be cut to one two more times, and the Panthers would go into the locker room with a 47-41 lead.
Central State made the first field goal coming out of the locker room to cut the lead to four and would trim it down to as many as one with 12:49 left in the game. Then, KWC went on an 18-1 run over the next 4:39 to lead 77-59 with 8:10 left in the game.Â
From there, the Panthers would cruise, winning by 14. In addition to Gambill's 18, Walker-Crawford added 16,
Asia Coates had 12,
Haley Cook scored 11 and
Katie Miller rounded out the double figure scorers with 10.
KWC shot 33-70 (47.9 percent) from the floor, 9-21 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc and made 17 of their 21 free throws. They won the rebounding battle 48-37 and outscored Central State 36-28 in the paint.
Next up for the Panthers is a visit from G-MAC leader Cedarville on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
