Basketball prepares for Bluefield

Game notes

The Kentucky Wesleyan men's basketball team will host Bluefield on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Sportscenter. The Panthers enter Sunday's contest with a record of 6-1, and are coming off a blowout win over Michigan Tech from last Saturday. The Panthers have won three consecutive games.

Coach Happy Osborne talked about last week's three wins and specifically discussed the win on Saturday over Michigan Tech. "It was a good week for us. On Saturday, I thought our defense was outstanding in the first half against Michigan Tech as we held them to just 15 points. We got into the passing lanes really well and disrupted them.  We had good wins overall, and now we're getting ready for Bluefield on Sunday."

The Rams come into Sunday with a record of 8-4, but have lost their past two games. Bluefield is led by Zeke Williams, who is averaging 16.9 points per game. The Rams have two other players averaging double figures in Alonzo Howard and Joseph McClain. Howard is also their top rebounder. Bluefield is scoring just over 75 points per game.

Osborne on the game plan for Bluefield: "Bluefield is a solid team. They really shoot the ball well, and are athletic. They played Pikeville who is number one in the NAIA to a 10 point game. We are going to be without our post players Marcus Fuggins and Jermaine Morgan who are both out injured. It's going to be a challenge for us. It's going to be small ball, and we'll have to cover ourselves rebounding. Obviously our depth takes a hit, but it's a chance to step up and we just have to get through this game."

Ken-Jah Bosley leads KWC in scoring with 17.6 points per game. Devin Langford, Jordan Jacks, and C.J. Blackwell are also averaging double figures. The Panthers are scoring 85 points per game, and are holding opponents to 72 points per game.

Osborne also spoke about the adjustments that will be made due to injuries. "Devin Langford is going to have to play the four; Adam Stanford is going to get his chance to play. C.J. Blackwell is going to have to play the five at times. We've had a few days to try and get used to it. We'll probably have to play a little bit faster too. Nobody is going to feel sorry for Kentucky Wesleyan. We have to go play, and it's a chance for us to open it up and get up and down."

Jordan Jacks has produced three double-doubles for Kentucky Wesleyan already this season, and is coming off of a performance where he scored 13 points and brought in 12 rebounds last Saturday.

Osborne on Jordan Jacks, "He brings a lot of energy. He's just a fun kid to coach. He's an excellent rebounder, and he brings a level of intensity that we need. "
