The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team fell short at home for the first time this season on Sunday afternoon to Kentucky State by a score of 72-64. The Panthers five game winning streak also comes to an end, as their record drops on the year to 6-4. Kentucky Wesleyan's only lead of the game was at 2-0.

Kentucky Wesleyan had trouble scoring early on offense in the first quarter, and Kentucky State built an early lead at 18-10. The Thorobrettes lead 20-14 after the end of the first quarter. Jennifer Walker-Crawford scored six points in the quarter for KWC.

The Thorobrettes remained out in front of Kentucky Wesleyan in the second quarter, and used their size and down low to score several easy baskets on the Panthers' defense. After extending their lead to 10 points at 28-18, KWC scored six straight points to cut the lead to four. Both teams traded baskets in the final minutes, and Kentucky State led 35-27 at the break.

KSU jumped out early in the third quarter on offense, and extended their advantage to 43-29. The Thorobrettes used their outside shooting to build a big lead on the Panthers. Kentucky State connected on four three pointers in the quarter and led 55-39.

Kentucky State held their largest lead of the game early in the fourth quarter at 61-42 with eight minutes remaining. The Panthers would then go on a run to close in on the gap. A 13-4 run cut the lead to 10 at 65-55 with three minutes left. However, the Panthers were only able to cut the lead down to eight before it was over. The Panthers out-scored Kentucky State 25-17 in the quarter. Kentucky Wesleyan shot 53% from the floor in the second half.

While Kentucky Wesleyan out-scored Kentucky State in the paint 40-32, they only made one three pointer in the entire game, and it did not come until the fourth quarter. KWC also committed 21 turnovers.

The Panthers had three players who scored in double figures. Brittany Wells for the third straight game led the team in scoring with 17 points on 6/13 shooting. Jill Jones tied her single-game career high with 13 points on 5/6 shooting from the floor. Jones also dished out a team-high four assists in the contest. She scored 13 points in the first meeting with Kentucky State too. Erin Dorn reached double figures for the third time this season as she finished with 11 points. Jade Mills-Harris also collected eight points. Jennifer Walker-Crawford led the Panthers with eight rebounds.

Kentucky Wesleyan will next be in action on Jan. 2, when they travel to Pepper Pike, Ohio to face Ursuline.
