Panthers dismantle McKendree for fifth straight win

Box Score

Kentucky Wesleyan rolled past McKendree 77-51 on Saturday afternoon at the Sportscenter. The Panthers have now won five straight games, and improve their overall record to 6-3. They also remain unbeaten at home this year with a 5-0 record. Today's game marks Kentucky Wesleyan's largest win of the season so far.

The game started off slow for both sides, as neither team was able to consistently knock down shots. Both teams were showing their defensive presences early on and playing physical defense.  Still, the Panthers were able to build a seven point advantage after the quarter at 17-10.

After a slow start in the first quarter, the Panthers finally caught their rhythm in the second, and began to put the game away. Brittany Wells was a major catalyst on offense for KWC in the second quarter, as she scored 11 points in the first half. Katie Miller knocked down a three point shot right before halftime, and put the Panthers well ahead at 36-20.

The Panthers got off to a hot start early on in the second half.  KWC went on a quick 14-7 run to open the gap to 23 points at 50-27 after Erin Dorn converted an and-one.  The Bearcats closed in on the lead later in the quarter, but the game and the lead were well in hand at that point, and McKendree was never able to catch up. The Panthers led by 19 going into the final quarter. Brittany Wells, Jennifer Walker-Crawford, and Erin Dorn were all in double figures in scoring after the end of the quarter.

Kentucky Wesleyan's largest lead of the game was 30, at 75-45 with five minutes left in the game, after Jill Jones hit a layup and free-throw. Kentucky Wesleyan led for 35:25 seconds of game time during the contest.

The Panthers shot nearly 50% from three point range, as they knocked down 11/23 attempts from long range. They forced McKendree into commiting 27 turnovers, and scored 31 points off of turnovers. KWC also finished with 30 bench points.

Kentucky Wesleyan was led by Brittany Wells for the second straight game in scoring as she finished with 18 points on 8/14 shooting. Jennifer Walker-Crawford scored 14 points and also tallied in a team-high eight rebounds. It is the second time this year that Walker-Crawford has brought in at least eight boards in a single game. Erin Dorn also added to the Panthers' scoring with a single-game season-high 12 points and a team-high four assists. The trio combined for 44 of Kentucky Wesleyan's 77 points. Sydney Morabito also collected eight points, and Asia Coates scored a season-high seven points.

Kentucky Wesleyan will return to action tomorrow as they host Kentucky State at the Sportscenter at 1 p.m.
