Caleb and Nicole Nieman recorded their 100th win at KWC after defeating Lane 69-45. It is the fastest to 100 wins by any women's basketball coach in Kentucky Wesleyan history. The Panthers (5-3) also won their fourth straight game, and remain unbeaten at home with a record of 4-0.
The Nieman's are now 100 and 52 for a 65.8 winning percentage in six seasons leading the Panther program.
In the first quarter of the action, Kentucky Wesleyan forced Lane into committing eight turnovers, and converted with 12 points off of them. They also attacked the basket and scored 10 points in the paint. The Panthers defense was stingy all night and forced Lane into taking tough shots all game. In the second quarter, the Panthers began to put the game away. They would out-score the Dragons 22-9 in the quarter, and led by 21 at halftime with a score of 41-20.
Brittany Wells scored 12 points in the first half, and
Bria Wright grabbed seven rebounds. KWC shot 50% from the floor in the half.
In the second half, KWC would continue to dominant Lane in every phase of the game. While both teams struggled to find baskets early on in the quarter, the Panthers paced themselves in the quarter and still remained well in front of the Dragons at 54-30 heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth, the Panthers held their largest lead of the entire game at 62-34 after
Addie Reimbold hit a jump shot. Kentucky Wesleyan opened the quarter on an 8-2 run. The Panthers forced Lane into committing 26 turnovers on the night. They also held the Dragons to just 34% shooting from the floor throughout the contest.
Kentucky Wesleyan was led by
Brittany Wells in scoring. She posted 18 points on 7/10 shooting from the field. It was the third time this season that Wells has been the leading scorer for the Panthers.
Jennifer Walker-Crawford added nine points, as
Jill Jones and
Jade Mills-Harris followed with eight points apiece.
Bria Wright finished with a team season-high 14 rebounds.
Jill Jones dished out a team-high four assists and four steals too. The Panthers also recorded 12 team steals during the game. KWC out-rebounded Lane 47-32. Kentucky Wesleyan also finished with 36 points in the paint, and 27 scored points off of Lane turnovers.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday for the Fairfield Inn Christmas Classic at 3 p.m. as they play host to McKendree.
