Box Score Kentucky Wesleyan lost to Trevecca in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play (25-23, 25-14, 25-13) in three sets on the road on Wednesday evening. With the loss, The Panthers falls to 7-17 (1-6 G-MAC) on the year.
In the first set, the Panthers started off with a 13-11 lead, but Trevecca rallied and took the lead back at 18-14. The Trojans continued with their momentum, and held off Kentucky Wesleyan 25-23 to take the opening set.
The second set was controlled by Trevecca. The Trojans built an early lead in the set at 10-4. The Panthers were able to contain the Trojans momentarily, and cut into the Trojans lead at 12-11. However, Trevecca went on a 13-3 point stretch to end the second set at 25-14.
Trevecca continued to dominate in the third and final set. This time the Trojans built a sizable lead, and never looked back. Trevecca jumped out to an early 10-3 lead in the set. The Trojans were able to extend the lead at one point to nine at 17-8. Kentucky Wesleyan was never able to gather any momentum in the set, and Trevecca rolled on to win the set 25-13 and win the match in straight sets.
The Trojans were led by Katelyn Atkinson, who produced 20 kills and 16 digs in the match. She had at least six kills in each set. Loren Bennet notched 34 assists and nine digs, while Clare Taylor logged eight kills with 12 digs.
The Panthers were held to just 23 kills throughout the match.
Nicole Venema registered a team-high 18 digs.
Sarah Swenson led the team in assists with 21. She also added six digs.
Nikki Jenkins and
Gabrielle Gallois each tallied six kills.
Kentucky Wesleyan will be back at home for a three match stretch over the course of the weekend. They will first host Salem International on Friday at 7 p.m.
