Box Score The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team defeated Rio Grande 73-62 on Saturday afternoon at the Sportscenter. The Panthers (3-3) only time without the lead was at 7-6 early in the first quarter. Kentucky Wesleyan scored at least 70 points for the second straight contest.
In the first quarter, Kentucky Wesleyan traded baskets with the Red Storm and trailed 7-6. They would end the quarter on an 11-1 run to lead 17-8. The Panthers scored 12 points in the paint in the opening quarter, and scored six points off of Rio Grande turnovers.
The Panthers began to pour it on the Red Storm offensively throughout the second quarter. Kentucky Wesleyan jumped out with a 13-6 run and extended their lead to 30-14. Rio Grande would cut into the lead before the half, giving KWC a 34-26 lead at the break.
Kentucky Wesleyan out-scored Rio Grande 31-19 in the third quarter, and led 57-40 after a three pointer from
Erin Dorn late in the quarter. The Panther built their largest lead of the contest at 20, with the score at 65-45 after the third quarter was complete. KWC scored 15 points off turnovers in the quarter alone and 11 points on second chance opportunities.
Kentucky Wesleyan only scored eight points in the fourth quarter, but it did not matter, as the Panthers rolled to a double digit victory at home. Kentucky Wesleyan forced Rio Grande into committing 35 turnovers on the afternoon. The Panthers out-rebounded the Red Storm 41-30.
The Panthers had three players reach double figures in the game.
Jennifer Walker-Crawford scored a team-high 15 points on 5-7 shooting from the field. Â She has scored double figures in five out of the six games so far this year.
Sydney Morabito also added 12 points on 5-7 shooting, and
Katie Miller scored 10. Walker-Crawford led Kentucky Wesleyan with eight rebounds as well.
Erin Dorn finished with nine points, and dished out a team-high six assists. The Panthers shot over 40% from the floor for the second straight game.
