Box Score The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team was defeated by Kentucky State 79-59 on Saturday afternoon at the Exum Center in Frankfort. After playing a close first half, the Panthers (1-3) were out-scored in the second half 38-20. Kentucky State led the entire game.
The Thorobrettes got off to a quick start in the first quarter with an early 11-0 advantage. Kentucky Wesleyan was able to generate some offense as the quarter progressed, but trailed 19-11.
In the second quarter, Kentucky Welseyan would out-score Kentucky State 23-22. The Panthers were able to cut the Thorobrettes lead to one at 28-27, after
Erin Dorn hit a three midway through the quarter. However, Kentucky State would end the quarter on a 13-4 run to lead 41-34 at the break.
The Panthers hung around in the third quarter, but were only able to stay within four points of KSU's lead. The Thorobrettes ended the quarter on a 10-3 run, to open up a 13 point lead heading into the fourth at 59-46.
The Panthers were unable to limit Kentucky State's offensive opportunities in the final quarter, as KSU started the fourth on an 11-3 run to open up the game at 70-49 and never looked back. The Panthers committed 21 turnovers and were out-scored by Kentucky State's bench 49-27.
Kentucky State was led by Shaia Horton, who scored 30 points for the Thorobrettes while connecting on 10/16 three point shots. Kentucky State as a team made 11 three pointers and shot 40% from the floor.
Kentucky Wesleyan was led by
Jill Jones in scoring for the second straight game. She finished with 13 points on 5-10 shooting.
Jennifer Walker-Crawford scored 11 points, and reached double figures for the third time this season.
Erin Dorn also added 10 points for the Panthers.
Sydney Morabito grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, and also collected a team-high three steals.
Brittany Wells and Walker-Crawford also registered six rebounds apiece.
Kentucky Wesleyan will look to bounce back next Wednesday with their first home game of the season, as they host Missouri-St. Louis at 2 p.m.
