Game notesThe Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team will face off against Central State and Kentucky State on Friday and Saturday at the Exum Center in Frankfort, Ky. The Panthers come into this weekend with a record of 1-1 on the young season. Kentucky Wesleyan defeated Ferris State in the season opener 64-55, but fell short to Findlay 80-54 in the second game.
Co-Head Coach Caleb Nieman discussed last weekend's games in Nashville, "It was kind of a classic first game against Ferris State. Even though it was ugly, we played really hard and that's what we asked our kids first and foremost to do. It was an extremely fast-paced game and we were just the more aggressive team, and it worked out in our favor. Against Findlay, our first half was some of our best basketball. In the second half we hit a lull in the third quarter, and our defense just wasn't where it was in the first half. Findlay made us pay."
Friday's game against Central State will take place at 5 p.m. CT. The Marauders are 0-2 on the season. Jordyn Bond is averaging 21 points per game for Central State. Saturday's game against Kentucky State will begin at 3 p.m. CT. The Thorobrettes have yet to play a game this year.
Nieman on the matchup against Central State, "Central State is a former G-MAC opponent, and from watching film you can tell that they play really hard and our aggressive defensively. They have some big kids in the post too. We are going to try and spread them out on offense and make it difficult for them to put the ball down low."
The Panthers have two players who are averaging double figures.
Jennifer Walker-Crawford leads Kentucky Wesleyan in scoring with 14.5 points per game, and
Brittany Wells is also averaging 11.0 points per game. The team is averaging 59 points per game through the first two contests.
Nieman on his expectations for the weekend, "There are a lot of things that we still need to work on, and we are going to use our practice time to improve on them and get better going forward. We have had some really good practices this week, and I just want that to filter out to Friday and Saturday."
