Box Score Box ScoreThe Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team lost to Central State on Friday night at the Exum Center in Frankfort 48-46. The Panthers (1-2) were out-scored in the fourth quarter 17-5. The Panthers committed 22 turnovers and shot just 26% from the floor in the contest.
The Panthers came out in the first quarter and controlled the game. With a 9-2 lead early on, it seemed things would go smoothly for Kentucky Wesleyan all evening.
Brittany Wells knocked down a three late in the quarter, and the Panthers led 15-8 after one quarter of play.
In the second quarter, the Panthers continued to have control of the game.
Addie Reimbold hit a jumper that put the Panthers up by double digits at 26-15. Kentucky Wesleyan led the game at halftime by a score of 28-20.
Kentucky Wesleyan was still ahead in the third quarter of play.
Bria Wright got a steal and then scored on a layup to give the Panthers their largest lead of the night at 34-22. Central State was able to close in on the score at 36-30, but a three pointer from
Shayla Wright, and then a jump shot from
Asia Coates gave KWC a 41-31 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter is where Kentucky Wesleyan's offense went inept. After a basket from
Jill Jones to put the Panthers up 43-33, Central State went on a 13-0 run to take the lead for the first time at 46-43, with just a little over two minutes remaining. Kentucky Wesleyan trailed 48-46 with 18 seconds left, but
Jennifer Walker-Crawford's late three point attempt was no good and the Marauder's held on to win the game.
Jill Jones led Kentucky Wesleyan in scoring with a team-high 10 points. She also brought in five rebounds.
Brittany Wells scored seven points, and
Bria Wright and
Shayla Wright each scored six points apiece.
Addie Reimbold collected seven rebounds, and
Jennifer Walker-Crawford tallied three assists.
Kentucky Wesleyan will play again tomorrow in Frankfort against Kentucky State at 3 p.m. CT.
