Box Score The Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team fell to Trevecca in straight sets (25-22, 25-13, 25-14) in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday evening at Jones Gymnasium. The Trojans spoiled Kentucky Wesleyan's Senior Night for
Jordan King and
Nikki Jenkins. The Panthers (9-19, 3-7 G-MAC) struggled to find any rhythm and momentum in the second and third sets after dropping the opening set.
KWC came out in the first set and looked sharp. The Panthers jumped out to a quick 8-4 advantage, and forced Trevecca to call an early timeout. The Panthers still held on to the lead at 15-14, but the Trojans were starting to find their game. Despite giving a strong effort, Trevecca won the opening set by a score of 25-22.
In the second set, Trevecca quickly took the lead at 11-7. Trevecca dominated the net and held off several Kentucky Wesleyan attack attempts. The Trojans would go on a 14-6 run to close the set out at 25-13.
The third set was similar to the second set. Trevecca once again had an early lead, but this time it was much larger. The Trojans led 9-2 right out of the gate, and then won seven consecutive points to increase the lead to 16-2. The Panthers tried to comeback and cut the lead to 19-9, but the Trojans were just too much to handle, as they went on to win the set by a score of 25-14 and the match.
Trevecca was led by Katelyn Atkinson who posted a team-high 13 kills along with seven digs. Clare Taylor had 11 kills and six digs as well. Loren Bennet tallied 27 assists, and Allison Boe and Ashleigh Lozier each recorded 11 digs.
Nikki Jenkins registered seven kills and eight digs, with a block assist for Kentucky Welseyan.
Gabrielle Gallois collected a team-high nine kills, with three block assists.
Sarah Swenson added 24 assists and
Nicole Venema notched 10 digs.
Kentucky Wesleyan's season will continue in the G-MAC Championship next week in Mason, OH. The Panthers will face off again with Trevecca on Thursday, November 19th at 6:30 pm CT.Â
