Box Score Looking to begin 2015 back in the win column, Kentucky Wesleyan basketball returned to the court tonight against Great Midwest Athletic Conference foe Ursuline College.
Jordanne Gambill's 18 points led three Panthers in double-figures as KWC cruised to an 84-57 win. The win put KWC at 3-0 in the G-MAC, setting up a battle for first place early in the season with Trevecca at home on Saturday.
KWC would take the lead 13 seconds into the game when
Haley Cook sunk a pair of free throws to make it 2-0. An Ursuline jumper would tie the score at two, and Gambill's first field goal of the game, a layup, gave the Panthers a 4-2 lead with 18:55 left in the first half.
Ursuline would tie score again at four before a Gambill three made it 7-4 KWC. That would be beginning of a run for the Panthers, as they closed the half on a 33-14 clip to go into the locker room leading 40-18.
The lead never got below 23 in the second half, reaching its zenith of 34 points, 61-27, after a three from
Bria Wright with 11:26 left in the game. KWC scored 44 second half points en route to the 27 point victory.
In addition to Gambill's 18, Wright had 10 and
Jennifer Walker-Crawford, in her first game back after missing the last two, had 10 points as well.Â
Jade Mills-Harris was the leading rebounder with eight.
For the game, KWC outshot Ursuline 47-33, canned a season high 10 three-pointers and won the rebounding battle 48-34.
Tip-off for the Trevecca game on Saturday is scheduled for one p.m. CT at the Sportscenter and the game can be heard on 90.3 WKWC FM.
