Box Score Looking to stay perfect in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play, Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball returned to the court this afternoon against Trevecca.
Double-Doubles from
Jennifer Walker-Crawford and
Bria Wright were enough to beat Trevecca today 70-64. Walker-Crawford led KWC in both categories with 11 points and 12 rebounds and Wright added 10 points and 11 rebounds, her third double-double of the year, as the Panthers grabbed a season high 56 rebounds in the win.
Neither team scored until the 18:10 mark when KWC went up 1-0 on an
Erin Dorn free throw. Trevecca took the lead on the first field goal of the game 22 seconds later and had a 2-1 lead with 17:58 left.
Jordanne Gambill tied the game with a free at the 16:48 mark and it remained that way until 15:56, when the Panthers took a 4-2 lead on a jumper by
Brittany Wells. Neither team scored for the next 2:25.
Trevecca retook the lead on a three-pointer at 5-4, before a three-point play from
Ciera Woods made the score 7-5 in favor of the Panthers. Trevecca tied it at 7 with a basket at the 11:56 mark before a three-pointer from
Erin Dorn gave KWC a 10-7 lead with 11:32 left in the first half.
A basket and free throws gave Trevecca the lead again and another jumper gave the Trojans their largest lead of the game at 13-10. KWC would answer with a
Haley Cook three to make it 13-13 with 10:12 left in the half.
Trevecca took their final lead of the game at the 9:56 mark in the first half on a free throw to make it 14-13 before the Panthers took a 15-14 lead on a Walker-Crawford layup and they would lead the rest of the game, extending the lead to as many as nine in the half. They would lead 27-23 at the half.
KWC would lead by as many as 13 in the second half and would finish off a 70-64 win in dominating fashion. Dorn also finished with 10 points for KWC and
Asia Coates, in her first action of the season, had three points, all on free throws, and five rebounds.
Both teams shot 37 percent from the floor, but KWC dominated the rebounding battle, beating Trevecca 56-27 in that category to secure the win.
The Panthers return to the court on Jan. 15, with a trip to Cedarville, Ohio to face G-MAC foe Cedarville.
