Box Score 4 Kentucky Wesleyan College began their season with a two day tournament this past weekend at Maryville University. KWC lost their first matches on both days, but followed up both losses with wins, finishing the tournament 2-2.
Match 1- Minnesota Crookston 3, KWC 1
KWC took the first set 25-22 before Crookston took the last three 25-15, 25-15 and 25-18.
Summer Alford led the Panthers with 12 kills,
Courtney Gildea added 19 assists and
Hannah Hudnall had 14 digs.
Match 2- KWC 3, West Liberty 1
The Panthers won their first match of the year, dropping only the second set 25-14, while winning the other three 25-13, 25-22 and 25-23.
Dallas Zimmerman led KWC with 13 assists, Gildea had 41 assists and Hudnall had 23 digs to lead three other players in that category.
Match 3- Maryville 3, KWC 1
The Panthers played match three close throughout, winning set three 25-23. The other three sets did not go their way, however, losing by scores of 25-23, 25-17 and an epic 4th set that finished 31-29. Alford again led the way in kills, this time with 18. Gildea would lead the way with 27 assists and Alyson Banks notched a match high 18 digs.
Match 4- KWC 3, Saint Joseph's 1
The Panthers would lose the first set of the final match 25-18, but rebounded to win the final three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-20. Alford again paced the team in kills with 17, Gildea posted the first KWC double-double of the season with 46 assists and 12 digs and Banks led the team in digs again, this time with 15.
KWC plays their home opener on Tues., Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. against Southern Indiana at Jones Gym.
