Opening the season 3-1 in non-conference play, the Kentucky Wesleyan women's soccer team opens the Great Midwest Athletic Conference season this weekend.
The Panthers play G-MAC preseason favorite Ursuline in Cleveland tonight and travel to Cedarville on Saturday.
"At minimum, the Bellarmine game helped us regain our focus," said head coach
Jamie Duvall. "We played a pretty good game against Georgetown on Thursday. We turned around and played a great first half against Midway and it was 6-0 at the half. All-in-all, it is a good learning experience for us heading into conference play."
Annie Elder and
Lauren Norton both lead KWC with three goals this season and
Paige Kramer has added three assists. Kate Dishion has played the majority of the minutes in goal, making seven saves.
Ursuline enters Thursday's match with an identical 3-1 record overall. Paige Rowan leads the Arrows with five goals on the season and Helen Jazzar has played every minute in goal, making 18 saves.
Cedarville also has a 3-1 record to start the year. Jacoby Ziegler has four goals to lead the Yellow Jackets and Hanna Harris has played every minute in goal, making 20 saves.
"We know a little bit about Ursuline, having played them twice last year," added Duvall. "They were picked to finish first in the conference and it's going to be a really tall order. Cedarville is probably number one or two in the conference, realistically. Two great teams to start our conference season on the road."
