Soccer signs Kaley Burnette

Honorable mention all-state midfielder Kaley Burnette from South Warren High School in Bowling Green, Ky., signed a national letter-of-intent to play soccer at Kentucky Wesleyan College, according to KWC head coach Jamie Duvall.

Burnette led the Spartans with a school record 15 assists and was second in scoring with 18 goals in starting all 19 games while helping South Warren to a 15-4-0 record for coach David Burnette. She holds the career records in scoring with 52 goals and assists with 62, which ranks in the Top 20 in the state in assists.

"I can't tell you how thrilled I am to add Kaley to our team," Duvall stated. "She is a skilled and physical central midfield player who can create opportunities for herself off the dribble or find the open man. Her mentality and attacking ability gives us much needed depth in the midfield. I expect her to immediately impact our program."

She captured All-Fourth Region honors three times and twice selected the Spartans Most Valuable Player plus was a finalist for Southern Kentucky Soccer Referee's Association and Fourth Region Player of the Year Awards.

Burnette played club ball for Sky Soccer in Bowling Green for coaches David Burnette, Chris Tinius and Dustin Cude. She was also a participant in Kentucky's Olympic Development Program.

She also was a four-year starter at guard on the SWHS basketball squad where she finished second in career points, assists and steals. Her other records include most three-pointers, best field goal percentage and most assists for a season.

In the classroom, Burnette was a four-time Academic All-State honoree in soccer and basketball as well as a member of National Honor Society and Beta Club. She earned Honor Roll recognition four straight years and the recipient of the Chemistry Award.

She is the daughter of David and Cindy Burnette of Bowling Green.

Duvall previously signed honorable mention All-State midfielder Anna Duff from Madisonville (Ky.) High School; All-Third Region selections Elizabeth Gordon and Keely Ham from Owensboro High School, All-16th Region midfielder Taylor Burnett from East Carter (Ky.) High School; All-Third Region forward Morgan Uebelacker from Grayson County (Ky.) High School; All-First Region center back Callie Emerson from Calloway County (Ky.) High School and second team All-State forward Kelsey Humphries from Hopkinsville (Ky.) High School.
