Box Score 4 Kentucky Wesleyan won three of four Great Midwest Athletic Conference contests against host Alderson Broaddus over the weekend.
Saturday, Game 1 The Battlers edged the Panthers 6-5 in the series opener after falling behind 5-0 after two.
In the first, Jonathan Eberhardt hit a single to drive in
Michael Hellmueller for the first run.
Mark Hagedorn followed with a single to send home
Dennon Koziol for the second.
Kyle Emig added another single to push Eberhardt across the plate across the plate.
Nolan Ray started the second with a solo homer for the fourth tally. Two batters later Hellmueller hit a single to drive home
Josh Vance for the KWC's fifth and final run.
ABU came back with three runs in the third and three in the fifth giving them the victory.
KWC produced eight hits to the Battler's six. Hellmueller and Vance each had two.
Andrew Moralez (2-3) received the loss. He threw seven innings and struck out three and walked two.
Jordan Collier came in relief for the final inning and had one strikeout.
Saturday, Game 2 KWC came from behind to earn the 6-3 victory to split the doubleheader.
The Battlers held a 3-0 lead after four innings before the Panthers took control.
The start of the fifth saw KWC load the bases.
David Murphy was hit by a pitch and brought
Jordan Harbison in for the first of four runs in the frame. Koziol drove in the second and third runs on a single with Hellmueller and
Reid Walker scoring. Emig closed the inning with a single bringing Murphy to the plate.
Hellmueller and Koziol both produced RBI singles in the sixth with Vance and Harbison crossing home to settle on the final score.
KWC recorded eight hits to ABU';s seven. Koziol had two hits and three RBIs.
Tyler Walsh (2-0) earned the win in relief. He threw two and two-thirds innings with one strikeout and gave up one hit.
Matt Lasley started the first three and a third innings.
Noah Boswell closed the final frame to earn his eighth save where he fanned all three batters.
Sunday, Game 3 The Panthers exploded with seven runs in the seventh to race past ABU 10-5.
Emig started the first inning for KWC with two RBIs on a single scoring Eberhardt and Hellmueller.
The Battlers then scored three in the second for the 3-2 lead.
Emig tied the game in the third with a double knocking in Koziol before the offensive run over.
Seth Sharp started the seventh scoring on a wild pitch. Eberhardt followed with a single to send home Hellmueller. A double by Hagedorn brought Eberhardt to the plate.
David Murphy continued with a single driving Hagedorn in. Vance drove in Emig off a single. Ray connected on a double to score Murphy. Sharp ground out pushed Vance home to complete the seven runs.
ABU added two in bottom of the seventh for the final score.
KWC had nine hits including four doubles and ABU had six.
Lucas Ray (4-0) remained undefeated by throwing six innings and striking out two.
Kaleb Moore pitched the final frame and struck out one.
Sunday, Game 4 KWC slowly built up to an 8-0 lead before settling on an 8-2 G-MAC win.
Eberhardt posted the first run on a Hagedorn single in the second. Emig came back in the fourth with a solo home run.
Connor Petschke drove Vance home on a single in the fifth and Emig hit his second solo homer in the sixth.
The eighth saw Hellmueller's single bring Hagedorn to the plate for the first of four.
Tyler Howard followed with a two RBI single advancing Petschke and Vance. Koziol finished the inning with a ground out pushing Hellmueller home.
The Battlers scored two in the bottom of the eight but could not get any closer.
Aussie Light (4-2) earned the win by throwing seven innings and nine strikeouts where he did not allow any walks or runs. Collier and
Austin Tibbs came in relief for one frame each and both recorded a strikeout.
The Panthers (16-9, 8-4 G-MAC) host Ohio Valley for a four-game series on Friday and Saturday at Panther Park. Both doubleheaders start at noon.
