Box Score 2 Kentucky Wesleyan split with visiting Davis & Elkins in two extra-innings Great Midwest Athletic Conference contests at Foster Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Senators won the first game on a homer and a RBI single to break the 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth for their 4-2 victory. The Panthers could not make a comeback in the bottom half.
KWC opened with a run in the third on a double by
Ashley Crooke driving in
Amber Pendergraft.
Kaci Ovelgoenner followed in the fifth with a double scoring
Kyli Smithson to grab a 2-0 lead. The Panthers were scoreless for the final three frames.
Davis & Elkins came back in the fifth with two runs before breaking out in the eighth.
The Senators had 10 hits compared to KWC's seven.
Kelsey Miller and Pendergraft each produced two.
Josalyn Ress (7-6) received the complete game loss and threw two strikeouts while walking none.
Casey Smith knocked in Crooke on a fielding error In left field in the bottom of the eighth to lift the Panthers to a 2-1 win in the nightcap.
KWC started the contest with a 1-0 advantage on a Smith sacrifice fly to send Crooke across the plate in the second. D&E followed in the third with a RBI single to even the score.
Smith (4-8) came in relief in the sixth to earn the win. She tossed one and a third inning only allowing one hit and threw two strikeouts.
Jessica Carmon started on the mound and pitched six and two-third innings and struck out two.
The Panthers (15-15, 6-4 G-MAC) play at Southern Indiana on Tuesday. The doubleheader begins at 2 p.m.
