Kyle Emig, Jonathan Eberhardt and
Mark Hagedorn lifted Kentucky Wesleyan to a sweep of Ohio Valley in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Panther Park. KWC won 5-2 and 7-3.
In the opener, the Fighting Scots got on the scoreboard with one run in the first. The Panthers came back in the second with three runs with
Josh Vance scoring on a wild pitch then a sacrifice fly RBI by
Michael Hellmueller and a
Nathan Hedgepath RBI grounder to short.
Eberhardt hit his solo homer in the third and Emig followed in the fourth with his solo blast for the fifth and final run for KWC. OVU added their second score in the top of the seventh to settle on the final result.
Emig and Eberhardt each produced two of the Panthers eight hits. Hedgepath, Koziol and Emig all recorded one double.
Lucas Ray remained perfect of the season by picking up his fifth victory by throwing four strikeouts, allowing three hits and no earned runs in six innings pitched.
Noah Boswell earned his ninth save of the season by throwing the final frame.
KWC started the second contest with three in the first for the 3-0 advantage. Eberhard hit a RBI sacrifice fly, Hagedorn followed with a two-run RBI double. The Fighting Scots came back to cut the lead to 3-2 in the second. Hagedorn produced his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly and Emig scored on a wild pitch to extend the tally to 5-2. Hagedorn added his two-run homer in the in the fifth. OVU scored their final run in the seventh for the 7-3 decision.
Aussie Light (4-2) earned the victory where he fanned 11 batters and allowed only three walks in seven innings pitched.
David Murphy came in relief for the final two frames to strike out three batters.
The Panthers (20-11, 12-4) play at Northern Kentucky on Tuesday at 2:00 CT, for a single contest.
