Box Score 2 Kentucky Wesleyan split with Cedarville, 3-7 and 19-4, in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener on Friday at Panther Park.
In the opener, the Yellow Jackets starting the scoring with two runs in the top of the fourth before the Panthers responded in the bottom half.
Kyle Emig singled to center field to drive in
Dennon Koziol and
Michael Hellmueller.
Mark Hagedorn scored on a fielding error as KWC captured the lead at 3-2.
Cedarville then scored one in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the seventh to earn the 7-3 victory.
The Panthers had five hits to the Yellow Jackets six.
Andrew Moralez (2-2) received the loss. He pitched 5.2 innings, fanned six batters and gave up five hits.
Jordan Collier,
Tyler Emberton and
Shawn Kahre all threw in relief. Emberton had three strikeouts.
The nightcap saw KWC explode with 14 runs in the second inning as they cruised to their first G-MAC in history.
Cedarville started with a 3-0 lead in the first.
Nathan Hedgepath's fielder's choice drove
Connor Petschke home to cut the lead to 3-1 after one inning.
In the second,
Jordan Harbison started the offensive explosion with a RBI single. Koziol, Hedgepath, Hagedorn all followed with two RBIs each while Emig and Hellmueller added one a piece.
Hellmueller's fielder's choice in the third sent
Josh Vance home. Hedgepath added another on a hit by pitch bringing Petschke across the plate. Hagedorn closed the inning with a RBI single driving Hellmueller home.
Bobby Calbert's double in the fourth scored Vance for the Panther's final run. The Yellow Jackets added one more in the fifth.
KWC had 10 hits and 15 RBIs while Cedarville had seven hits. Hagedorn and Hedgepath each produced four RBIs while Hellmueller and Koziol collected two. Petschke and Vance both scored four runs and Hellmueller added three.
Matt Lasley (3-2) earned the win. He threw five innings, striking out seven and allowing five hits.
Wes Ward came in relief for the final two innings where he struck out two.
