Ashley Crooke's grand slam in the fourth lifted Kentucky Wesleyan to a 10-1 victory over visiting Cedarville in the first of two Great Midwest Athletic Conference contests on Saturday afternoon at Foster Field.
Kelsey Miller started the first with a double where
Kaci Ovelgoenner followed with a single to send Miller home for the 1-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets came back in the third with three runs.
Crooke's big hit drove in Ovelgoenner,
Amber Pendergraft and Miller to go ahead at 5-3. The Panthers followed with four more in the fourth.
Kylie Smithson began with a double and Ovelgoenner singled her home. A bases loaded walk by
Mackenzie Weedman sent Miller across the plate. Ovelgoenner went home on a
Jessica Carmon single. Crooke's run on a hit by pitch by Ress closed the fourth. In the fifth, Miller scored KWC's final run on a wild pitch.
The Panthers collected 10 hits compared to Cedarville's three.
Josalyn Ress (6-4) earned the win by throwing a complete game and striking out four.
In the second game, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 9-0 lead with two in the third, five in the fourth and two in the fifth and never looked back.
Casey Smith opened the fifth with a homer followed by Smithson run on a ground out by Pendergraft for the Panthers only runs. Cedarville came back in the sixth with two more to settle on the final tally.
Smith (3-7) received the loss and threw two strikeouts.
KWC (13-12, 3-1 G-MAC) will travel to Nashville next Friday and Saturday for a four-game series with Trevecca Nazarene.
