Kentucky Wesleyan jumped out to a 9-0 lead as they ran past Hillsdale, 12-2, in Midwest region action at Clearwater, Fla., on Tuesday evening.
Dennon Koziol started the Panthers scoring in the first with a two-run RBI bringing home
Connor Petschke and
Tyler Howard.
Mark Hagedorn followed with a double scoring Koziol and
Nathan Hedgepath.
Josh Vance ended the first with a RBI single sending Hagedorn across the plate for the 5-0 start.
KWC added two more in the second. Hagendorn hit a sacrifice fly to score Petschke and Vance produced a single to knock in Koziol and Hedgepath to extend the advantage to 8-0.
Howard collected a double in the third to drive home Petschke as KWC pushed out to 9-0. The Chargers got on the scoreboard in the fifth with one run. In the sixth, Jordan Eberhardt drove in Howard on a single for the 10-1 margin.
Hillsdale added one more run in the eighth. Hagedorn and
David Murphy wrapped up the Panthers scoring in the eighth on a double by Eberhardt to settle on the final score, 12-2.
Eberhardt, Howard and Vance all produced two hits. Eberhardt, Hagedorn and Vance posted three RBIs.
The Panthers collected eight hits in 33 at bats and the Chargers had six in 32 plate appearances.
Lucas Ray earned his first win of the season by throwing five innings with a game-high nine strikeouts plus one walk and five hits.
Jordan Collier,
Austin Tibbs, and
Shawn Kahre all closed the game in relief.
Collier threw two innings with one strikeout and no hits. Tibbs had one strikeout in the eighth and Kahre finished the ninth with no hits.
