Carson-Newman swept Kentucky Wesleyan, 11-5 and 10-2, in softball action in Jefferson City, Tenn., on Tuesday afternoon.
In the opener, the Eagles scored one run in the first and second inning for a 2-0 lead.
The Panthers got on the scoreboard in the third as
Josalyn Ress hit a RBI single up the middle to bring home
Kaci Ovelgoenner.
C-N followed in the bottom of the third with five runs.
Ashley Crooke in the fourth connected on a two-run RBI double scoring Ovelgoenner and
Kelsey Miller. Ress closed the inning on a RBI single with Ress coming across the plate for KWC's fifth and final run.
The Eagles scored four in the bottom of the sixth to settle on the 11-5 win.
Ress (2-2) received the loss. She threw four innings, struck out four with no walks and gave up 11 hits.
Casey Smith finished the final two innings with one strikeout and five hits.
The second contest Carson-Newman exploded with eight runs in the second and one in the fourth for the 9-0 advantage before the Panthers answered.
Kelsey Miller hit a RBI double to bring
Ashlea Holt home followed by
Mackenzie Weedman's single to score Ress for the Panthers only two runs in the fifth.
Carson-Newman (13-1) added one more run in the bottom of the frame for the 10-2 victory.
Jessica Carmon (1-1) tossed one and 2/3 innings in the loss. She had one strikeout with 11 hits. Smith completed the final 2 and 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and three runs.
For the day, Ress had three hits in four at bats plus two RBIs and Miller collected three hits in seven plate appearances. Crooke, Holt, Miller, Ovelgoenner all produced doubles.
The Panthers (4-6) plays at the Maryville University Worth Invitational in St. Louis on Saturday and Sunday.
