KWC starts final road trip

Game Notes

Kentucky Wesleyan College takes its last road trip of the season when it travels to Davis & Elkins for a Thursday night game in the G-MAC.

The Panthers are continuing to try and ride momentum from an eight-game winning streak.

"Our kids have shown tremendous persistence," KWC coach Happy Osborne said. "They have fought to win. They also know this weekend our defense has got to be much better."

The Panthers didn't have a tough time the first matchup with Davis & Elkins, a 98-75 win at the Sportscenter back on Jan. 9.

But Osborne and the team know that they have to keep the intensity level high to keep the winning streak going and carry it through to the end of the regular season.

"We've got some guys who know they don't have much longer (playing at KWC), and they don't want to take that jersey off for the last time," Osborne said.

Lonnie Hayes and Dominique Dawson are two of those seniors in the starting lineup. Hayes has emerged as the team's leading scorer at 18 points a game. The 6-foot-1 guard has really gotten it going in KWC's last

two games, hitting for 35 and 26 points. Hayes has done a very good job getting to the free-throw line recently also, he made 26-of-27 free throws in those two KWC wins over Central State and Cedarville.

"Lonnie Hayes has made a tremendous change for us," Osborne said.

Davis & Elkins has only one starter averaging double-figure scoring. Devin Miller is averaging 19 points and 6.4 rebounds a game.

D&E is the set-up game for KWC's rematch with Alderson Broaddus on Saturday. KWC's lone loss in the G-MAC came to Alderson Broaddus, 81-62, at the Sportscenter on Jan. 11.
