Game Notes
Kentucky Wesleyan men's basketball coach Happy Osborne expects more of the same on Saturday as his team continues its Great Midwest Athletic Conference road trip through West Virginia.
The Panthers escaped on Thursday night with a wild 101-96 victory at Salem International — a mere prelude of what might be in store for the streaking Panthers when they visit Ohio Valley's Fighting Scots on Saturday.
"It will be a smaller gym with a bigger crowd," Osborne said. "This will be a tough environment, and we've got to be ready to play from the start."
Wesleyan (13-7, 7-1 G-MAC) has certainly been ready to play in recent weeks, winning 12 of its last 14 games.
The Panthers got 25 points on Thursday from freshman guard Ken-Jah Bosley, the team's leading scorer at 17.2 points per game.
Others expected to start for KWC are sophomore forward Devin Langford (12.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg), senior center Donovan Johnson (10.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg), sophomore guard Lucas Barker (5.9 ppg, 4.2 apg) and junior forward Patrick Neel (5.9 ppg, 4.7 rpg).
In addition, the Panthers feature a strong bench led by senior guard Lonnie Hayes (16.8 ppg), senior center Dominique Dawson (9.9 ppg, 7.2 rpg) and senior guard Rico Ferguson (8.3 ppg).
The Fighting Scots (3-14, 2-5) are coming off Thursday's 69-64 G-MAC home loss to Trevecca Nazarene.
In that game, Ohio Valley was led by Sequan Lawrence and Lance Leslie, each of whom scored 11 points. Robert Smelser added 10.
The Fighting Scots are expected to start Lawrence, a 6-7 senior forward and one of the league's top scorers at 21.3 points per game; 5-10 junior guard Jerry Macon (13.8 ppg, 3.1 apg), 6-7 freshman center Arturs Vitins (9.7 ppg, 6.8 rpg), and 6-5 sophomore guard Povilas Dambrauskas (6.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg).
Coach Mike Snell's club was hammered by the Panthers 105-59 back on Dec. 5 at the Sportscenter.
Following Saturday's game, Kentucky Wesleyan remains on the road next week, facing Oakland City on Wednesday and Trevecca Nazarene on Feb. 8. The Panthers don't return to the Sportscenter for game action until Feb. 13 when they host Cedarville.
