KWC wins sixth in a row, 87-66

Riding a five game winning streak, including three straight at the Sportscenter, Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball opened play today in the Fairfield Inn Christmas Classic.

Led by Brittany Wells with 15 points, KWC took the lead for good with 14:41 left in the first half and cruised to an 87-66 win over Cincinnati Christian.  Erin Dorn had 12 points for the Panthers as well, while Bria Wright and Katie Miller both added 11 to round out the double-digit scorers.

Cincinnati Christian led 3-0 then 3-2, before KWC took their first lead of the game, 5-3, on a three-pointer from Wells.  CCU re-took the lead at 6-5 with 16:36 left and neither team scored for the next 1:55.

Another three from Wells gave the Panthers an 8-6 lead and they would not trail the rest of the game, stretching the lead out to 52-29 at halftime.  The Eagles would get the lead inside 20 at 52-33 before KWC went on a 24-12 run in the first 12 minutes of the second half and led 76-45 with 7:49 left in the game.

The Panthers cruised the rest of the way to an 87-66 win.  KWC made a season high 10 threes in the game, eight of which came in the first half; they outshot CCU 44 percent to 32 percent and were plus-two in rebounding at 45-43.

KWC plays their final game of the 2014 calendar year tomorrow against 10-0 Carson-Newman.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT at the Sportscenter.
