Box Score Scoring their first win of the season Wednesday night over Berea, Kentucky Welseyan women's basketball entered today's game with old GLVC foe Saint Joseph's College with some momentum.
Led by 19 points each from
Erin Dorn and
Jordanne Gambill, KWC earned their second victory in a row, a 76-65 decision over SJC. The win improved the Panthers' record to 2-4 on the season.
The teams traded baskets to begin the game, with Dorn making a layup 14 seconds in and SJC answering with a layup from Kalea Parks, who had a game-high 32 points, to tie the score at two less than a minute into the game.
A second layup from Parks with 18:40 left in the half gave Saint Joe's their only lead of the game at 4-2. Gambill would hit the first of seven KWC threes in the first half to give the lead back to the Panthers at 5-4.
The score would remain close over the next five minutes, with Saint Joseph's tying the score again at 15 with 13:14 left in the half. From there, KWC closed the half on a 32 to 13 run to go into the locker room leading 47-28, led by Dorn, who scored 17 of her 19 in the first half.
The lead would never drop below eight the rest of the game, reaching its lowest point with two minutes to play. The Panthers would cruise to a 76-65 win.
Katie Miller finished with 15 points off the bench and Dorn finished one rebound shy of a double-double. As a team, KWC shot a season best 47 percent from the field, including 57 percent in the first half; they made seven threes, all in the first half and they out rebounded SJC 42-34.
The Panthers return to the hardwood on Thursday with their first G-MAC game against Ohio Valley University in Vienna, West Va. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 CT.
